From recall to repeal?

Seeking to quickly capitalize on the momentum of the successful first-ever recall of two Colorado state senators, the Basic Freedom Defense Fund (BFDF) and Pueblo Freedoms and Rights (PFR) will soon be polling all Colorado legislators to gauge their support for repealing the very gun laws at the heart of the recalls.

The two organizations were primary driving forces behind the petition gathering and campaigning against ousted senators John Morse and Angela Giron.

Furthermore, the two groups say they intend to poll all candidates planning to run for any state seat or statewide executive office in 2014.

icon_orig_report“While we consider Tuesday’s election a significant victory, we realize that these egregious gun laws remain and we want to know where each and every Colorado state legislator stands on them,” said Jennifer Kerns, Spokeswoman for the recall effort.  “It is a new day in Colorado and constituents expect their legislators to represent the will of the people. No one is immune from the reach of the grassroots efforts which powered these two recall elections.”

The questionnaire also implies a longer-term strategy, namely,  if legislators aren’t willing to repeal the laws, the organizing groups may seek to have them overturned through the state’s ballot initiative process in the 2014 general election.

A draft of the questionnaire is embedded below, which indicates results from the polling will be published October 1.
