In the recent elections, for the first time in memory, the state party made recommendations in a large number of municipal races.

A wide-sweeping victory in Southern Colorado included several school districts in the Colorado Springs area, as well as Douglas County, while Greeley/Evans School District 6 came close, with three of the four conservatives on that ballot taking over spots previously held by far-left board members.

Dr. Douglas’ idea of the balance between safety and freedom was the only valid path forward and he would enforce it even if it tore TCHD apart – which it did.

The resolution says the commissioners are not only opposed to any ongoing mask mandate or requiring proof of vaccination but anything that could disenfranchise their citizens from the right to make their own health care decisions.

More than 70 percent of the counties in Colorado already have their own public health departments, Thomas said. So, Douglas County forming their own would simply be joining the majority.

“I am committed to forming an independent health department and health board by Jan. 1, 2023 … and I want what is the fastest possible solution to get Douglas County on the road to home rule.” — Douglas County Commissioner-elect George Teal.

Republican John Kellner, currently a deputy prosecutor in the 18th, holds a slim 1,551 vote lead over Democrat challenger Amy Padden.
